…………..

Dear Janice smsed me 2 months back asking me if I was keen on joining her for a lil’ mission trip to Bintan, Tanjung Pinang (TP) to be exact. She asked me to plan some art/craft sessions for the village women & kids, which I thought would be a great outlet for me, esp since I currently don’t teach art..

So anyways, last weekend 14 of us (mainly Janice’s bible college class mates) took a ferry out to TP in the morning…. The team’s objective was basically to visit a small fishing village an hour way from the city area and interact with the community, distribute rice & condense milk as well as teach some art/craft to the kids/women.

Indeed we achieved all this pretty much in the first day – as you can see above in the pics. One of the churches from Singapore have established a very strong relationship with the headman & woman with this particular village, and without fail each month some representatives will visit and both interact and give whatever necessary resources the people need.

It was really nice to be a part of this ‘community’ project. I fell in love with the village kids, they were really well behaved, diligently colouring away the colour-sheets I designed. Aside from colouring in, we also played around with the chenille wires creating accessories and crazy critters with eyes, whilst Janice and the other gals helped make brooches out of felt for the kids.

The first day, we actually taught in the small little wooden classroom sans lights. The second day, Janice thought it would be nice to teach on the keylong – indeed it was lovely teaching with the backdrop of the water, smell and breeze of the salty air – gives teaching ‘outside of the classroom’ a literal translation πŸ˜›

Aside from visiting the kampong, we had a chance to explore the TP city area where we stayed. We ate chicken rice, KFC, Padang dishes (which comprises mainly of fish), prata, mee soto, explored the wet market… I even managed to squeeze in an ultra-cheap Indonesian cum Thai massage for only $10sg!!!! And it was REALLLLLLLY good..

….

Twas really good having the opportunity to teach Art to the village kids in TP; to smell the sea again; to meet some new friends (not to mention converse in Mandarin with a Chinese National & Taiwanese) as well as hangout & laugh with Janice πŸ™‚

Thanks again dear for the opportunity! And thankyou God, for the timely trip and refreshing πŸ™‚

……….

Feel super exhausted, it’s been a crazzzzzzzzzzzy week… It’s like 1 day seems like a week ago, and the last week seems like a month ago – do you identify with me???!

Week in review:

  • Step x 4, pump x 2, rpm x 2, AF x 1
  • Celebrated Cat’s bday at Da Dong
  • Celebrated Aunty Hyma’s 60th & met some of Nav’s long lost paternal rellies
  • Had my lesson ob!!!!!! argggggggh
  • Indulged in Sun & Moon’s delectable Jap, not to mention the gorgeous tofu cheesecake & green-T tiramisu!!!!
  • Participated in the Art Market @ Fortcanning

Has been an eventful week, preparing for my lesson observation, preparing for step – trying to memorise moves…, then of course preparing for the art market. Speaking of which – thanks muchly to all of you who came by – a good mix of ex colleagues, students from SP & PL πŸ™‚ church buds, gym buds & the misc buds πŸ™‚ It was a fantastic opportunity for me to see people actually purchase my tape-measure brooches andΒ  bread-tag earrings, as well as my global finds from India, Bangkok & China. Special thanks to the coz for making day 1 fly and to Judy for accompanying me day 2!

Tomorrow till Thurs is church camp, which I’m now looking forward to – the spiritual enlightenment, as well as the break from the mental & physical fatigue of everything…

Then of course there’s Friday – a breather before the scarrrrrrrrrrry step course – which I’m sure is going to be enlightening too πŸ˜‰

So there you have it a fusion of my 3 passions in life – Art, Christ & Gym, with all my loved ones in between! haha…

Till then…. cheerios!

The past month back in Singapore has breezed by fast – been busy with a few interviews and yup will be starting work at a Polytechnic next month πŸ™‚  Been occupied with some Lit & Drama workshops… Been eating lots of bread and stock-pot meals at home… Been getting more efficient with the house cleaning – I even surprised myself with how fast I was at ‘transforming’ the living room before ST came πŸ˜› In addition, my current washload turnaround is 2-3 days woh! hehe…. Been meeting/hanging out with heaps of people – ex colleagues, church buds, gym buds & been making new friends inc. Connie & Joanna πŸ™‚ Annnnnnd lastly but not leastly.. the gym routine – hehe… been averaging min. of 10 classes a week, and yesterday I survived 4 classes – Angies step & abt, then Mr W’s pump & step.. And today Pfeiffer (my balance instructor) commented that my body’s more toned – Yipppeee – it better be after 3-4wks of stepping, rpming, pumping, balancing and aquaing WOH!!!

Hooray to the tai-tai life πŸ™‚

Freo glass pendants

Jen lent me her toolbox of beads, wire and pliers for me to experiment with. After picking up a few glass pebbles from Freo the other day, I felt inspired to make some pendants and these are my creations. Am pretty pleased with the end results… I’ve always loved glass pebbles and have always thought they had such simplistic beauty and I’ve always believed they’d have great potential as pendants πŸ™‚
